DNSChecker.ca is operated from British Columbia, Canada. This policy explains what we collect, how it is used, who else receives it, and the choices you have.

1. Information We Collect

Information you provide

We collect information only when you choose to give it — for example your name, email address and message when you use our contact form. We do not require an account and we do not sell personal information.

Information collected automatically

Our servers and our providers record standard web log data: IP address, browser and device type, referring page, pages viewed and timestamps. This is used to operate the service, diagnose faults and measure aggregate usage.

DNS queries you run

Domain names and IP addresses you enter into our tools are sent to public DNS resolvers (such as Google Public DNS) to return a result. We do not use these lookups to build a profile of you, and we do not link them to your identity.

2. Cookies and Similar Technologies

We use a small number of cookies and browser storage entries to remember preferences such as your light/dark theme setting. These are set by this site and are not used for advertising.

Third parties, including advertising partners, may also set cookies when you visit. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; some site preferences will stop working if you do.

3. Advertising

We intend to display advertising on this site through Google AdSense. When advertising is active the following applies:

Where required — including for visitors in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom — consent is requested before personalised advertising cookies are used, and you may change or withdraw that choice at any time.

4. Analytics

We may use privacy-respecting analytics to understand which pages are useful. Analytics data is aggregated and is not used to identify individual visitors.

5. How We Use Information

To operate and improve the tools and guides, to respond to messages you send us, to keep the service secure and prevent abuse, to measure aggregate usage, and to display advertising that funds the free tools.

6. Sharing

We do not sell personal information. We share data only with providers that help us run the site — hosting and content delivery (Cloudflare), public DNS resolvers used to answer your lookups, and advertising and analytics partners as described above — and where we are legally required to do so.

7. Data Retention and Security

Server logs are retained only as long as needed to operate and secure the service. The site is served exclusively over HTTPS. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Your Rights

Under Canada's PIPEDA, and under the GDPR if you are in the EEA or UK, you may request access to the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, object to or restrict certain processing, and withdraw consent where processing is based on consent. Contact us using the details below and we will respond within the timeframe the applicable law requires.

9. Children's Privacy

This site is intended for a general and technical audience. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

10. International Visitors

The site is operated from Canada and served through a global content delivery network. By using it you understand your information may be processed in Canada and other countries.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as the service changes. Material changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
